Capturing the Jigsaw Pieces

Perhaps I’m reading too fast, thinking too much. But I can’t help but think that I’m on the edge of some precious clarity. If only I could just arrange these pieces together juuust right.

Yet there is a danger of overdoing it. Maybe strained eyesight or burn things together improperly out of impatience. And I can only write things so fast. My mouth is slower than my fingers, so how can I put it together at all!?

Patience, patience, patience. Rest, even.

During that down time, I’ll share my observations.

Integration

I will forever sing the praises of Coursera: accessibility and variety of skills and fields that you did not dare to explore during college because that was another years tuition to even explore. It is worth the free account to browse their selections from several colleges.

I am not getting paid for this, I’m just a nerd who likes to learn. So here is my list of courses that I have completed, am working on, and the next one/two I am eying. Because I have no cool and enjoy the excuse to sit down and take notes on a Saturday evening.

  • From Climate Science to Action – by the World Bank Group. The encapsulation of climate science and what it means for every aspect of the globe. It has all the sources, found across their respective fields. It is very good, if not anxiety provoking at times. But isn’t that always going to be the case? Still, the knowledge is there for the taking.
  • Circular Economy Sustainable Materials Management – Lund University. What the what? If you are in the EU or adjacent, you get it. If you are American, look what everyone else is doing, because we are missing the boat out of this mess! Don’t look to them and say “Oh, they are off saving the world or something.” No! You get up, do the Google thing you do before doomscrolling every morning, and you look up circular economy. What can be more American than looking at a piece of trash and thinking, “I can make something out of that.” That’s it, go have fun learning how your phone is put together, it’s a fun rabbit hole to fall into.
  • Climate Change and Water in Mountains: A Global Concern – University of Geneva. Mountains? Love them, put me on it. Water? Love it, put me inside it. Water on mountains? Yes, let me return to my wild hedgewitch form where I can live as a mountain and wetland hag with my coven of tree frogs. Let me preach to the people why mountains are protectors from wild weather and why we need those glossy white peaks. We need these precious ecosystems, so no. The extra knowledge is required. Just try to stop me.

What the Hell Am I Writing?

In my attempt to go big and broad with my thoughts, the writing has changed some. I got a bit of poetry going, if not incendiary in nature. It seems like I’ve run out of patience with what I’m writing about; it does not sound nice nor pretty. For now the writing is cathartic and cutting. I enjoy the ability to get to the point.

Less is more for the economy and ecology of the page.

Yet in these broad strokes, I’m finding a better perch for my fantasy. It still flutters at the edge of my mind. Something is stirring, waiting to take off once again. It appears when info-dumping about volcanoes and Krakatoa sunsets. It makes little hops when I survey the info coming from Ukraine. There is a little squeak when I return to books of everyday chemistry and physics.

It’s there. Muffled by the sounds of rushing thoughts. But it is indeed alive. Buried deep underneath the thoughts of summer and end of school season, something remains in captivity, waiting for the moment to peak out and fly out of hibernation.

With the notes I keep doling out, I hope that I can lure that inspiration and dream out once again.

Till next time, stay safe and sane my dears.
