Summer Break Poems

red and beige painted wall

Home is where time pauses,
life is a different beam of light
draped across the living room.
Home is the unexpected nap,
dropping from worry into security,
sure in stealing a moment of sleep.
Home is a forgiveness –
arguments patched tapestries
mended delicately over the years.
And home is who hums
to themselves after you wish them
good night.

Time drips
honey seconds,
unreal minutes
into a hazy blend
of a life
unraveling
its miseries slowly
thread after thread.

A bubble of sunshine escapes,
cloud slowly stretching its beam.
Softer than the finest silk,
cooler than the other side of the pillow.
Till the beam dissapates
into sanguine fingers
pulling the sheet close
before a final sigh
into sunset’s peaceful rest.
